During the siege of 1552, György Szondi and his small band of defenders held Drégely castle against a massive Ottoman army until their final breath; today, the ruins serve as a lasting monument to this heroism. A beautiful forest hiking trail leads from Drégelypalánk to the fortress standing on the ridge of the Börzsöny mountains.
